Word order, questions, and negation
Spanish word order is more flexible than English, but the default is Subject-Verb-Object. Subject pronouns are usually dropped because the verb ending already shows who is acting.
Dropping the subject
'Yo hablo español' and 'Hablo español' both mean 'I speak Spanish'. Drop the pronoun unless you need it for emphasis or contrast.
Questions
Yes/no questions usually keep the same word order as statements, just with intonation: '¿Hablas español?'. Question words (qué, dónde, cuándo, por qué, cómo) go first, usually followed by the verb and then the subject.
Negation
Put 'no' directly before the verb: 'No hablo francés'. Spanish uses double negatives: 'No tengo nada' — 'I don't have anything'.
