SER — mnemónico DOCTOR
SER se usa para lo esencial y permanente:
• Description — Es alta. • Occupation — Soy profesor. • Characteristic — Es simpático. • Time — Son las tres. • Origin — Somos de España. • Relationship — Es mi hermano.
ESTAR — mnemónico PLACE
ESTAR se usa para lo temporal, cambiante o la ubicación:
• Position — Está sentado. • Location — Estoy en casa. • Action (progresivo) — Estoy comiendo. • Condition — Está cansado. • Emotion — Estoy contenta.

Con muchos adjetivos, ser y estar dan sentidos completamente distintos.
